Hazards
You are coming to Ahuriri River Lodge and Birchwood Station Homestead – it is not a canned adventure – this was originally a high country sheep station which had a hardy breed that lived here. We are located 25km up a gravel road which has several hazards. 500m further on from us the road becomes a 4 wheel drive only track ….
There are several scree slips and potholes, you pass over several back-country bridges and ford a small stream.
Weather events in New Zealand can be severe, the river rises and can cross the road, slips gets scoured by flooding and this little stream can become a torrent. 98% of the year you can travel in with a normal car – although a 4 wheel drive is a better option especially if you want to explore further up the valley by vehicle.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET SAFELY TO THE HOMESTEAD
We monitor the weather situation and river levels and will be able to get to you in extreme events but it is something to be aware of.
Being in a Conservation Park and in the tree line there is a huge amount of wildlife. Several bird species around the homestead and in the nearby wetlands. We also have possums, ferrets, sandflies, insects, mice and various other crawly and flying organisms. Whilst they won’t attack you – normally – (well the sandflies do) please be aware they are here.
Do bring Sandfly repellent and sunscreen !
Cancellation and Liability
Ahuriri River Lodge accepts no liability for any costs or damages resulting from weather events or acts of god whatsoever. We do suggest Travel Insurance should this concern you.
Refunds – partial or full – are completely at the discretion of Ahuriri River Lodge. We do not consider weather events either before or during your stay as reason for a refund.
We have a strict Policy regarding Cancellations. On Booking we ask for 50% of the total accommodation costs to confirm and block out your dates. This ensures you have those dates secure but is subject to us having to cancel your booking for whatever reason. Where a situation arises and you wish to cancel your booking for whatever reason, we will reopen the booking and endeavour to resell those dates – this will incur a days fee for the administration costs should we achieve this. However should we not be able to resell those dates you forfeit the 50 % payment.
Once you have paid the full accommodation cost (ie the final 50%) by 7 days prior to arrival, the same conditions as above apply. No shows will result in the full fee being forfeited.
Any changes to the above policy is completely at the discretion of Ahuriri River Lodge.
Should we have to cancel a booking for whatever reason we will refund all monies paid. This will be the full extent of our liability.
